For Mums and Nans – 40 – 65+yrs of age
This is a very challenging time for us – it is a challenging time for many – of any age group – yet, especially those mums who have gone through bringing up families – having the freedom to do the best for their families, balancing work, family, household chores as well as being there to support your elderly parents.
NOW, it has all come to a halt – at a time when you feel that you are at the prime of your life – a time when you thought you can be there to support your children and grandchildren and to spend giving to the community – It has all come to a lockdown.
‘Self-Isolation’ is not something we ever bargained for. Self-isolation had never crossed our minds. Yet, here we are ‘self-isolating’ for nearly 2 years! It is now the main topic we talk about! Our world changed in front of our eyes – to something we never dreamt of.
Things we took for granted are now things we have to think twice about and plan, to do
- Going to the shops / bakery / to the butcher
- Your time – to pamper yourself – to get your hair, nails or beauty therapy
- Home renovations – shopping at Bunnings to get things for your garden for renovations
- Visiting friends / family / people in hospitals
- Going for social events / weekly social gathering with friends/community
- Going out for the weekend / for an evening meal / a picnic
- Going to a movie or to the club
- Meeting a friend for a chat at the local cafe
NOW – it is all taken away from us – Yes – it is challenging times for our generation more than for the younger generations – they have adjusted pretty well – to work from home, connect with family and friends through social media, video chats, skype and face time.
Yet, for our generation it is still a challenge for many – Let’s change this situation around and see how we can make this time benefit us and our loved ones –
Take time – STOP and think
Take a moment and think about your life?
Take a moment to think about who is in control of your life?
REALLY – when you think about it – YOU are still in control of your life – you just need a different perspective from what it was to what it is now. How can you get adjusted to this new ‘lifestyle’ to make it better for you and your family – How can it be better for your health and well-being?
When you get down to the basics of life and start to appreciate what you have and what is close to your heart – you may realise that what you took for granted once – is so precious for you now – the time with your children, visiting your parents, the time at home with family – We had lost value of all this – we had lost the power of humanity – how important it is for us to share love, time and compassion.
This is what life is about – We are still in control – No one took away our control or our freedom! – our focus needs to change from the ‘fast-paced technology-driven lifestyle’ to one that puts people first – put family first – put our community first.
We were not happy the things were – we were so disconnected from each other – we were so out of balance – AND – NOW as we STOP and have TIME to THINK – we can see the important things in life were NOT the things we were chasing – The important things in life were always within us – our families – our people – our community – our country.
Let’s take control of our Lives and enjoy the small things – close to our hearts and enjoy life to the fullest.
